Bun Cao

Bun Cao is a choco bread stuffed bun, which is completely incredible in taste & looks. Here I used to stuff dark chocolate bar but it’s up to you, anything you can fill inside the bun as in like Chicken, Vegetable, scrambled eggs, jam, or Nutella. It’s completely up to your choice. Easy to carry and leakproof.

This kind of bun is uber soft, fluffy, and slightly moist inside.

The above measurement is fit for 1 serving but if you plan to bake more servings, measure it accordingly. To bake Bun Cao, there are several steps.

Delicious, yummy bun for anytime, anywhere with anyone.


Let’s get started,


Yield – 1 serving

Timing – 12 min

Prep time – 2 hrs.

Total- 2 hrs. 12 min


Ingredients:

All-purpose flour – 135 gm

Yeast – 1 tsp

Sugar – 1 tsp, ½ tsp

Warm water – ¼ cup, 60 ml

Warm milk – 50 ml

Salt – ¼ tsp

Baking powder – ¼ tsp

Oil – 2 tbsp

Dark Chocolate Bar

& For egg wash (egg & milk)

Grated almond for garnishing


Method-

Proofing

Pour ¼ cup warm water to a small ceramic or metal bowl. Add yeast and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Stir and set it aside for 10 to 15 minutes.


Meanwhile prepare the dough.


Dough preparation

To a mixing bowl, add the flour, the yeast mixture, warm milk, salt, baking powder, sugar, and oil. Knead the dough for about 2-3 minutes and by hand 3-4 minutes. Add more flour if needed.

Place the dough in a lightly greasy bowl, cover it with plastic then, let the dough rise for at least 45 to 60 minutes.

After that, uncover the risen dough, put it on your workstation. Sprinkle some dry flour and divide the dough into 4 equal parts, shaped into balls. Gently roll it with the help of a rolling pin. Fill dark chocolate bar inside and again shape it.

Place the baking tray with parchment paper, greased it. Place the ball into it with a little gap between the balls. Cover it with plastic again and let rise for 30 minutes.


Meanwhile prepare the egg wash. Add 1 egg and about 1 tbsp of milk, whisk it. Keep it aside.


Ultimate step, uncover the risen dough, brush the buns with egg wash or only milk. Sprinkle some grated almonds.

Baking

Preheat the oven to 180℃ (356°F) and bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Take it out from the oven, let it cool at room temperature. Now, our perfect BUN CAO is ready to be served!!


Note – This Bun Cao has no egg ingredients recipe except for egg wash but if you want, you can make it completely vegetarian. Here you must use only milk for washing the dough instead of egg wash. And it’s important to activate the yeast in a correct method.

Storage - It can be stored for 2-3 days without a refrigerator in a dry and cold place.
