CHURA MATAR for starving mood

Updated: Apr 16, 2022

(Wersja polska napisana poniżej:)

Craving something savory in this nice, cozy evening. Today I prepared a bowl of Chura Matar which is made of flattened rice (Chura or Poha) and fresh or frozen green Peas (Matar). The name Chura Matar is a Hindi word. It is popular snacks in Northeast India (especially in Winter). However, when the markets are flooded with fresh green Peas.

This is one of my favorite snacks. You can make it as in breakfast or an evening snack. Here, I’m using thick flattened rice. Don’t deep fry it. Recipe prepared by roasting Chura with a little oil and Matar.

It is crunchy, delicious, and full of crispiness evergreen snacks. Finally, add a full spoon of Ghee to enhance the flavor.

So, what are you waiting for? Let’s get started,

Yield – 1 serving

Timing – 15 minutes

Prep time – 05 minutes

Total- 20 min

Ingredients:

Flattened rice- 1 cup

Olive oil- 2 tbsp

Onion- 1 small, sliced

Green chili- 2 nos., chopped

Green peas- 1 cup (frozen or fresh)

Salt to taste

Black pepper powder- 1/3 tsp

A spoon full of Ghee

Method-

Add flattened rice in a heated pan. Dry roast, stirring constantly over medium heat, until well cooked and light brown. Set aside for a while in another dish.

Further, reheat the same pan, sprinkle with olive oil. Add sliced onion and green chili. Sauté for a minute until onion turns translucent. Add frozen or fresh peas. In winter, you can easily get fresh green peas. Sauté for the next 3-4 minutes.

Add salt as per your taste or add 1/3 teaspoon of salt and black pepper powder. Mix well. Then, add roasted flattened rice. Mix everything together for a minute. And serve hot with “HOT CHAI”. It can be eaten as an evening snack or breakfast.

Note- (As if you are using frozen green peas, it’ll cook quickly, but if you’re using fresh one it takes a little longer to cook). If you don’t like Ghee, you can enjoy it without it.

Storage- If you cook peas and onion super crispy/ fried, you can store them for over a month.
