Jalapeño Thecha (spicy)

Updated: Apr 16, 2022

(Wersja polska napisana poniżej:)

Thecha is a traditional Indian condiment found only in western India (Maharashtrian chutney) that can be served as an accompaniment to perk up a bland meal or added with your meal to enhance the flavor. Each house has its own recipe. Usually, the main ingredient is green chili, but in this recipe, I tried something new called "JALAPEÑO". If you like chili recipe, you'll love it ... "I love this recipe because it's a bit spicy."

Believe me it comes out soooooo incredibly aromatic and spicy. You’ll never want to miss its nutty flavor, if once you’ve tried.

This is the best combination I’ve ever had.

Let's jump to the recipe,

Yield – 50gm

Timing – 10 minutes

Prep time – 5 minutes

Total- 15 min

Ingredients:

Jalapeño- 150gm, sliced

Olive oil- 2 tbsp+ 1 tbsp

Cumin seeds- 1/2 tsp

Garlic- 3-4 cloves (big), sliced

Peanut- 3 tbsp, roasted & coarsely crushed

Salt to taste

Method-

Wash the jalapeno well with water and wipe it dry. Then, cut into slices and set aside.

Chop the garlic cloves, set aside. Roast the peanuts and crush them, set aside for a while.

Further, heat a pan over medium flame and add the jalapeno to the heated pan and toss it until blistered or for 6-7 minutes. Stir at regular intervals. Once blistered put the prepared jalapeno onto a plate.

Reheat the pan with oil. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add chopped garlic, and sauté. Cook until garlic is blistered (stir frequently). Add salt as per your taste. Now, at this time add blistered jalapenos, mix well. Set aside and let everything cool to room temperature for 5 minutes.

Placed a grinder, here I use a hand grinder, but you can use any. Add the prepared jalapeno mixture to it and grind it coarsely.

Now heat the pan again and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the hot pan. I use olive oil here, but you can use any. Then add coarsely ground jalapeno. Sauté for a few minutes, ready to serve with any food as a side dish.

Note- Don’t use a blender to make Thecha as ‘Paste’.

Storage- It will last in the fridge for 5-6 days when stored in an airtight container. Take them out for a few minutes before you want to serve them.
