(Wersja polska napisana poniżej:)

Pierogi is the Poland's favorite comfy food. These are savory dumplings, coming with an incredibly unique idea. Pierogi can be stuffed with a few savory or sweet fillings. So, today I'm including this amazing recipe to the famous Indian Samosa style.

In general, Pierogi are boiled dumplings, but here I cooked Samosa. So, this dish comes up with fried 'Pierogi Samosa'.

Is Pierogi Samosa a new dish for you? Write to me in the comments section. These savory stuffed dumplings were originally a peasant delicacy native to central and Eastern Europe. And Pierogi are always an important dish of Christmas Eve celebrations in many homes.

Let's jump to the recipe,

Yield – 4 servings

Timing – 30 minutes

Prep time – 30 minutes

Total- 1 hrs.

Dough Ingredients:

Flour- 2 cups

Salt to taste

Unsalted Butter- 10 gm

Egg- 1 no., beaten

Water required to knead a dough

Chutney Ingredients:

Dates- 1/2 cup

Ginger powder- 1/4 tsp

Cumin powder- 1/4 tsp, roasted

Red chili powder- 1/4 tsp

Pink salt- 1/4 tsp

Brown sugar- 1.5 tbsp

Stuffing Ingredients:

Olive Oil- 2 tbsp

Cumin seeds- 1/3 tsp

Garlic- 1 clove, chopped

Green Chili- 2 no., chopped, (optional)

Onion- 1/2 small, sliced

Peanut- 1 tbsp, roasted

Red chili powder- 1/3 tsp, (optional)

Turmeric powder- 1/3 tsp

Potato- 4 medium, boiled & mashed

A handful coriander leaves

Salt to taste

Preparation for Chutney-

Take a bowl, soak the dates, pour enough water into it and let it sit for at least 10-15 minutes. Here, I used warm water to facilitate the soaking process.

Place the grinding jar and add the soaked dates. Make a smooth paste.

Now, heat the pan, pour the prepared paste of dates in it. If needed pour a little amount of water. Mix well until it starts to change color. Add ginger powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well for 5-6 minutes. Finally, add brown sugar and stir until the sugar dissolves well. Now it's ready to be served.

Preparation of Dough-

Add the flour to a large mixing bowl. Add salt as per your taste, semi-melted butter and beaten egg. Mix everything together. Then gradually add water and knead the soft dough. Stand aside for a moment.

Meanwhile...

Preparation of Stuffing-

In a heated pan, add oil. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter for few seconds. Then add chopped garlic and chopped green chili. Sauté it for a few seconds. Here, green chili is completely optional. You can use a mild chili or paprika. Now add the sliced onion and sauté for a minute. Add roasted peanut, red chili powder and turmeric powder. Mix well.

Further, add boiled & mashed potatoes, sauté together. Then, add chopped cilantro, and turn off the flame. Transfer it to a plate or bowl. Keep it aside.

Assembly process-

Place the prepared dough on a board. Spring some dry flour to avoid stickiness. Roll it up nicely. Now, using a cookie cutter, cut the flattened dough into 1/8-inch disk. Then, grease the dumpling maker with oil and place a dough disk over it. Now, put the stuffing inside and seal the edges perfectly. Take them out and make other dough disks from the same process.

Further, place a deep-frying pan and pour enough oil into it. Heat the oil for a couple of minutes. Then successively add the prepared dumplings or pierogi. Fry 3 to 4 dumplings at a time. Fry until well cooked and turn golden brown. Take them out on kitchen towel to allow access amount of oil to be absorbed.

Finally, the delicious, crispy Pierogi Samosas are ready to be served. It can be paired with a date chutney or green coriander chutney.

Note- You can make this recipe without chili and any dumpling makers.

Storage- 'Taste great when it serves hot'. It does not need to be stored. But just in case, you can keep it in the refrigerator for 2 more days.
