Rejuvenating Sattu Drink

(Wersja polska napisana poniżej:)

Sattu or Sharbat is a smoothing Indian drink that you will never stop sipping this summer. Made of roasted chickpea flour with the addition of chilly water and other spices and herbs. It is a super healthy rejuvenating drink in tanning summer. It can be sweet and savory. I like savory so I'm shooting today. Sattu does not contain preservatives, food colors, artificial sweeteners, and the best part is that for fitness freaks it is a completely calorie-free flour.

To make it sweet in taste, just add a little sugar or jaggery. Then no spices were added. Only 3 ingredients - water, sattu and sugar. And here's the sweeter version ready to be served cold.

I have been using this flour since childhood because BIHAR is my hometown. And I love to eat and drink it. My father's favorite Sattu dish is called "Sattu ka Paratha". He liked to make Sattu Paratha masala and he always gave us a pinch for tasting, especially by offering me because they (my family and relaties) considered me a "taste expert". If I say OK to any dish… that dish will pass!! I have missed those days so much writing this blog.

Anyway, I'm a little touched at this point ...

Now you must be thinking- What is Sharbat?

Well, the word Sharbat comes from Persia. So, a drink made of sugar and water. This in turn comes from the Arabic word shariba, which means “to drink”. So, the drink can be sweet, or savory called ‘SHARBAT’.

What is Sattu?

Sattu is a protein rich flour consisting of roasted chickpeas, especially brown chickpeas. It is a summer drink in Northeast India such as Bihar, Jharkhand, and U.P which is a popular province where this flour is used abundantly in scorching summer.

I have already published some recipes that used this “Sattu” such as ‘Litti Chokha’ or ‘Sattu ka paratha’.

It has several health benefits:

Great for diabetic people

To control high blood pressure

Make your stomach cool
