Thandai- IMMUNE BOOSTER

Cold refreshing beverage immune booster “Thandai” is made with a special blend of spices and nuts, peppercorns, rose petals, poppy seeds, saffron, fennel seeds! This homemade version is super easy to make and much better than the market store Thandi. All you need to do is blend all special spices and nuts, which get shaken with chilled milk and serve COLD. You won’t believe the result is an awesome, creamy nutty drink, luscious and nobody gonna stop you from falling in love with it. This drink is full of flavor and aroma.

Thandai is the most popular refreshing summer drink in India and is always served during Holi festivals which comes in March month. “Holi” is a color festive in India and is an entire day festival. And this refreshing drink makes you instant freshness from tiredness of sun tanning in summer.


My family loves this cold drink. You can have it at bedtime as well. Just add a pinch of turmeric in hot milk instead of cold milk and it’ll give you sooth effects on your body and keep you warm from inside in winter.

Yield – 1 jar

Timing – 5 minutes

Prep time – 10 minutes

Total- 15 minutes


Masala Ingredients:

Pistachio- ¼ cup

Almond- ¼ cup

Fennel seeds- 1 tbsp

Poppy seeds- 1.5 tbsp, (blue)

Cashew nut- ¼ cup

Cardamom- 12 nos. (green)

Saffron strands- a generous pinch

Dried Rose Petals- 1/3 cup

Pepper powder- 1/5 tsp

Nutmeg powder- ½ tsp

Cinnamon powder- ¼ tsp


Thandai Ingredients:

Milk- 2 cups, chilled

Thandai masala- 1 tbsp

Sugar- 2-3 tsp

Rose water- 1 tsp



Method-

Heat a pan and add all the nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios), fennel seeds, poppy seeds, and cardamom. We don't want to roast them; the idea is just to give some heat to crunch the nuts.


Place a jar and add all the above mixed ingredients. Add dried rose petals and finally add a generous pinch of saffron. Grind them together. Now, add powder spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper powder). Mix well. Finally, thandai masala powder is ready to be served.


Note- Fill in the dry and airtight jar. No need to store in a refrigerator. 

How to make Thandai drink?

Take a mixing jar, add cold milk, sugar, flavor water like Rose and Thandai powder (masala). Shake them nicely. Serve cold.


‘Tandai is made using many nuts and spices that are said to have a cooling effect on the body, hence the name "Thandai", which means "cooling" in Hindi.
